Third version of the Advanced Course on Pretreatment, Membrane Fouling and Scaling

August 2012, Hotel Las Pircas - Copiapó

The use and new sources of water are a transversal problem in the north of Chile.  It is the province of Copiapó where the situation becomes more critical every day.

In this context, from August 21st to 23rd, WE Group organized an advanced course on “pretreatment, membrane fouling and scaling” given by Jan Schippers, a reputed Dutch professor, expert in Water Supply Technology at the UNESCO-IHE Institute.

Jan Schippers has a vast professional experience in projects regarding the supply of industrial and drinking water in Morocco, Qatar, the Arab Emirates, Libya, Gabon, Cape Verde, Namibia, Uzbekistan, France and The Netherlands.

The expert informed the professionals of mining and water companies from the different areas of the country of the recovery and treatment of water with membranes, thus making it drinkable and reusing this vital resource for the local population and industry.

Course on water footprint – Course on carbon footprint

November 2011, Hippocampus - Con Con

The sixteen-hour water footprint course held in Con Con dealt with the carbon footprint, calculation and certifications, water footprint in production chains, identification of blue, green and grey footprint.

Fernando Santibáñez, Director of AGRIMED Centre, Universidad de Chile and Heloisa Schneider, Director of sustainability and climate change at KPMG and representatives of the Water Footprint Network in the Netherlands were in charge of teaching this module on November 7th and 8th, 2011

Congress on Water and Energy in Mining - Aemin 2011

November 2011, Hippocampus - Con Con

With the presence of experts with a global reputation in matters of solar and wind energy, desalination, water and carbon footprint in the region of Valparaíso one of the most important events on the matter was organized. This congress was visited by government authorities like Mr. Julio Dittborn, the Intendent of the Atacama region, Ximena Matas and the Intendent of the Arica and Parinacota region, Mr. José Durana.

At this second version of the Aemin congress, the participation modality was divided in two. On days November 7th and 8th the specific courses on desalination and carbon and water footprint were taught. And from November 9th to 11th, the Aemin 2011 congress took place with speakers from the mining industry such as Ferruccio Medici of Anglo American, Diego Lizana of Compañía Doña Inés de Collahuasi and Martin Brown of mining company El Tesoro, who spoke of their projects related to NCRE they had implemented in their companies.

The other speakers such as Alexander Heinz, Julián Blanco, Miriam Balaban, Thomas Altmann, Jan Schippers, Heloisa Schneider, Rolando Chamy, Ruth Matthews, Fernando Santibañez and Alberto Ceña were all united in Chile to reveal the most select part of their knowledge, experience and vision of Chile with regard to their fields of knowledge

Second version of the Advanced Course on Pretreatment, Membrane Fouling and Scaling

November 2011, Hippocampus - Con Con

Jan Schippers has a vast professional experience in projects regarding the supply of industrial and drinking water in Morocco, Qatar, the Arab Emirates, Libya, Gabon, Cape Verde, Namibia, Uzbekistan, France and The Netherlands.

Workshop on Solar Energy

June 2011, Hotel Parinacota - Arica

The northern area of Chile and countries like Peru and Bolivia show high levels of solar radiation. This envisages a great potential for the development of solar technologies. Therefore in these areas it is highly feasible to develop solar technologies such as photovoltaic solar energy and solar concentration energy.

The First International Congress of Solar Energy and Applications in Latin America united the most important players at world level in solar energy and its applications. This first-class Latin American congress dealt with issues related to the generation of solar energy and its applications in Latin America.

First version of the Advanced Course on, Pretreatment, Membrane Fouling and Scaling

May 2011, Hotel Leonardo Da Vinci - Santiago

The course included the theory and practice of pretreatment, fouling and scaling in micro- and ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis applied to the production of drinking water and industrial water. The issues dealt with in detail included the impact of water resources, sea water, river water, brackish ground water and treated domestic waste water.

Congress on Water and Energy in Mining - Aemin 2010

November 2010, Hotel Terrado - Antofagasta

Fresh water is scarce in Chile and in the north of the national territory the alert has been raised. The deserts become drier and drier, rivers have an increasingly lower flow rate and without fresh water the mining industry cannot function. Therefore WE Service organized the first Congress on Water and Energy in Mining.

Aemin 2010 presented important topics such as desalination and solar energy of discussion and learning, by speakers of the highest international level such as Dr Julián Blanco and Dr Corrado Sommariva, people with wide practical and intellectual experiences, who deployed their knowledge throughout the congress

International Conference on Solar Platforms in Chile - Julián Blanco

March 2009, Ritz Carlton Hotel - Santiago

The sun can satisfy all our needs if we learn how to rationally use the energy it issues. It has been shining in the sky some five billion years and calculations predict it has not even come halfway its existence. Specialists foresee an increase in global energy consumption of close to 75% towards 2020 and it is expected to triplicate by 2050. Despite the fact that significant achievements have been made as to energy efficiency during the past years, the energy demand in Chile will double during the next decade. Given the positive risk qualification on the country and the regulation system, Chile is one of the best options when it comes to investing in NCRE, which is why WE Service organized the first international congress on Solar Platforms in Chile, headed by the Spanish expert of repute, Julián Blanco from Plataforma Solar de Almería, Spain

International Desalination Congress - Thomas Peters

November 2007, Intercontinental Hotel - Santiago

Thomas Peters, doctorate in “Drinking water production from sea water applying reverse osmosis”, from the Erlangen University in Nürnberg, Germany, was awarded the Stanley Gray Award - Marine Technology by the Marine Engineering, Science and Technology Institute, London, Great Britain, because of his contribution to “Production of drinking water from sea water”.  He held a series of conferences in Chile, organized by WE Service, among which a conference at the Intercontinental Hotel, conferences at the Chilean Marine, the Universidad Católica, Inacap, etc
